Continuing our efforts to increase the range of organic coffees we offer in the shop, we are pleased to say that we have added a great new coffee from the La Florida Co-operative in Peru. According to Inter-American Coffee, the La Florida co-operative was established in 1966 and does a lot of work to improve life for the local community, providing schools with new equipment, maintaining the roads and providing jobs for local people. As for the coffee, the beans are from the Norte growing region of Peru and Alpen Sierra dark roast them for an intense but sweet, malty and dark chocolate flavour. The coffee has a mild acidity, round body and a clean after taste. Why not try it with something sweet and chocolatey as an afternoon treat?!

New Organic Mexico Chiapas in the shop!
Posted on 1 August 2012
As part of our aim to increase our range of Certified Organic coffees, we are pleased to bring in this delicious new single origin coffee from Alpen Sierra Coffee Roasting Company. Most of our coffees are blends which we feel offer more of a complex flavour in the cup but we do try to carry one or two single origins at any one time. Many Mexican coffees are certified organic, less expensive in comparison to some other South American coffees and are generally considered to be mild and lighter bodied. Consensus seems to be that the best come from the Chiapas region in the far south of Mexico, as Alpen Sierra themselves say: 'Mexico's coffees are best described as light to medium in body with delicate and sparkling characters of sweetness and fine acidity. She boasts production across twelve states, but we find the finest, sustainable speciality coffees to come from the Oaxaca Pluma and Chiapas regions.'They describe their Mexico Chiapas as a 'medium/dark roast with delicate aromas of honey and spicy notes. Notes of honey and cedar are present in the flavour with a mild acidity and a light body and a sweet, clean after taste.'
Buy a bag today and let us know what you think. If you need the coffee ground for you, then give us a call and we can grind it to suit whatever brewing method you use. Enjoy!

Coffee Review: Alpen Sierra Italian Roast
Posted on 10 June 2011
We were very excited here at Glenfinlas Coffee when the long-awaited delivery of Alpen Sierra coffee arrived on our fair shores! We had been chatting to founder Christian Waskiewicz over a few weeks about what coffees he had been roasting and what he could recommend to us. One of those recommendations was the Italian Roast.
This 'medium' dark roasted coffee is best when finely ground and used for espresso but it still works really well when brewed in a cafetiere which is how Glenfinlas Coffee tried it. Italian Roast is a blend of three different varieties of beans; Central American, African and Indonesian, to give it that classic Southern Italian espresso style.
One of the first things that you notice when you open the bag is the beautifully dark, rich and oily beans and the aroma is wonderfully spicy with a slight hint of tangy lemon zest. In the cup, it's a very well balanced, full-bodied blend of coffees which gives it a more traditional character but a bright, assertive flavour and lots of acidity. You may also detect further spicy flavour elements as you keep tasting it. We were very impressed with Alpen Sierra's Italian Roast when it arrived and would definitely recommend it to you to try.
As always, you can find this delicious roast in the coffee section of the website.

Coffee Review: Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Dark Magic Espresso Blend
Posted on 13 January 2011
Having received a Great Taste award from the Guild of Fine Foods in 2009, Dark Magic Espresso Blend is a delicious, gourmet espresso roast. It's a medium to dark roast with a sweet, rich and intense flavour that produces a wonderfully deep, copper-coloured and velvety crema. Dark Magic has been specifically blended for use as an espresso but we find it also works really well as a drip-filter coffee. For Dark Magic Espresso Blend, Green Mountain have expertly roasted complimentary single origin coffees which have created a really harmonious, full and delicious flavour. It has a lovely, toasty aroma with sweet and intense notes and a smooth, lingering finish. And most importantly, there's not a hint of bitterness in sight! Enjoy!

The House Blend is the cornerstone of Green Mountain’s Fair Trade Organic range and a great cornerstone too!Fair Trade Organic House blend has subtle shades around the same palate with complementary flavours that make a coffee that is great for drinking throughout the day. The origins of this blend are in South and Central America, this combination of geographically close coffee beans result in a coffee that has great harmony amongst the flavours within.
Fair Trade Organic House Blend is a medium to dark roast and is best made in either a Cafetière or as a Filter Coffee, or if you’re a fan of iced coffee it makes a great Toddy Brew. The taste is rich, sweet and with nutty hints. House Blend has a great toasty aroma, full body and a great level of acidity that doesn’t overpower the less strong flavours in the cup.

Green Mountains House Blends Fair Trade & Organic credentials mean that you can enjoy this great coffee with a clear conscience.
