Introducing amazing new coffees from Alpen Sierra Coffee Roasting Company!
Under the stewardship of founder Christian Waskiewicz, Alpen Sierra has been roasting speciality coffee amid the beautiful landscapes and crystal clear air of Northern California since 1999. In 2005, Glenfinlas Coffee visited their micro-roastery and were so impressed by Christian’s knowledge and passion that we have been bringing his coffee to you ever since! Find out more about Alpen Sierra in the News section.
After speaking with Christian to find out what coffees he’s particularly excited about, Glenfinlas Coffee now have some delicious new Alpen Sierra coffees available for you to enjoy in our web shop, including two that are a little bit special!
Italian Roast: This is a delicious, dark roast espresso with a lively blend of African, Indonesian and Central American coffees to produce a spicy, piquant aroma and flavour.
Alpenglow Mountain Blend: Another dark roast coffee but one with a deep, complex flavour and a sweet aroma. Alpenglow Mountain Blend will make a great, all-day coffee and we would recommend brewing it in a cafetiere.
Now for something a bit different…
Costa Rica Tarazzu: La Minita Estate and Ethiopia Nekisse – Micro Lot
Christian has been to visit the regions, and in many cases, the actual estates and families that have meticulously produced heirloom varietal coffees and these two are personal recommendations from the Alpen Sierra founder himself.
Costa Rica Tarazzu: La Minita Estate: Costa Rican Coffees are some of the best in the world and this sweet and spicy Tarazzu, from the La Minita estate is no exception. It is shade grown and hand graded which gives it a remarkable consistency – a real treat!
Ethiopia Nekisse – Micro Lot: Ethiopia is the home of coffee and produces arguably some of the finest coffees on the planet and this limited availability, premium coffee is grown at 5900 feet in the Sidamo/Shaskiso region. It is a light roast coffee with a creamy and zesty body and a complex, silky finish.
Find all of these exceptional coffees in the coffee section of the website.
Coffee Review: Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Dark Magic Espresso Blend
Having received a Great Taste award from the Guild of Fine Foods in 2009, Dark Magic Espresso Blend is a delicious, gourmet espresso roast. It’s a medium to dark roast with a sweet, rich and intense flavour that produces a wonderfully deep, copper-coloured and velvety crema. Dark Magic has been specifically blended for use as an espresso but we find it also works really well as a drip-filter coffee.
For Dark Magic Espresso Blend, Green Mountain have expertly roasted complimentary single origin coffees which have created a really harmonious, full and delicious flavour. It has a lovely, toasty aroma with sweet and intense notes and a smooth, lingering finish. And most importantly, there’s not a hint of bitterness in sight! Enjoy!
About Alpen Sierra Coffee
Founded in 1998 at Lake Tahoe in the Northern Sierra Nevada, Alpen Sierra has grown to become the premier roaster of speciality coffee in California. Having spent much of his life in the European Alps and the Sierra Nevada founder Christian Waskiewicz’s love of good living has become the foundation for Alpen Sierra’s goal of providing the highest of quality coffee drinking experience.
As Alpen Sierra has grown and experienced all facets of the speciality coffee industry, most notably the environments in which the coffee farming families live at origin, it became apparent that to be passionately and actively involved in the future of the industry, they would have to put their money where their hearts are. Alpen Sierra embraced the concept and practices of sustainability as they entered the new millennium. In the year 2002 Alpen Sierra was one of the first speciality micro-roasters in Northern California to become certified organic within the USDA’s newly launched National Organic Program.
With environmentally conscious production at the heart of the production all vehicles at Alpen Sierra have recently been converted to run on Bio Fuels.
Here at Glenfinlas we regularly use Alpen Sierra’s Organic Dolomiti Blend as an espresso coffee in our own cafes, we find it has a great body & smooth finish – perfect in a cappuccino or latte.
Coffee Review: Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Fair Trade Organic House Blend
The House Blend is the cornerstone of Green Mountain’s Fair Trade Organic range and a great cornerstone too!
Fair Trade Organic House blend has subtle shades around the same palate with complementary flavours that make a coffee that is great for drinking throughout the day. The origins of this blend are in South and Central America, this combination of geographically close coffee beans result in a coffee that has great harmony amongst the flavours within.
Fair Trade Organic House Blend is a medium to dark roast and is best made in either a Cafetière or as a Filter Coffee, or if you’re a fan of iced coffee it makes a great Toddy Brew. The taste is rich, sweet and with nutty hints. House Blend has a great toasty aroma, full body and a great level of acidity that doesn’t overpower the less strong flavours in the cup.

Green Mountains House Blends Fair Trade & Organic credentials mean that you can enjoy this great coffee with a clear conscience.

By the time it earns gold, any winner will have been assessed by at least three different teams.
